Become an at home mixologist: How to make a Lopburi

World Cocktail Day celebrates the perfect concoctions of drinks we have all come to know and love. Our bar teams at Chaophraya have amazing cocktail ideas through to creation and our drinks training team have a wealth of knowledge that we want to share with you!

The earliest use of the word "Cocktail" can be traced to the early 1800s, when a French sailor, having consumed too many Bracers (a drink made using brandy) garnished one with chicken feathers from the dinner he’d just eaten and yelled out “VIVE LE COQ TAIL!”. A ‘cocktail’ is now typically recognised as a drink that is mixed using alcoholic ingredients (mainly spirits and liqueurs) flavoured with fresh fruit, fruit juices, sugars, and herbs.

Cocktails provide a wide arrangement of enticing scents and flavours, and our cocktails are no different, meeting innovation without bounds. Our versatile and delicious menu represents a mixture of diverse cultures and perspectives from across Thailand. With flavour and culture being at the heart of everything we do, it is important that our cocktail lists complement our food menus. The aromatic and vibrant flavours of Thai cuisine blend perfectly with the sweet and fragrant flavours in our drinks. We use lots of ginger, lemongrass, coconut, and tropical fruits to pair perfectly with the mouth-watering flavours of our food. Inspired by Thailand, designed by us.

At Chaophraya we have a great variety of delightful, daring and decadent cocktails made to satisfy everybody’s tastebuds including well known favourites such as the Espresso Martini and Bramble. Learn how to make a Chaophraya Garden Bramble here. We have also elevated our mixology by curating bespoke cocktails that truly reflect a taste of Thailand. We suggest you try something new when dining with us! One of our most-loved cocktails is ‘Lopburi’. Named after the spectacular city itself, Lopburi is one of Thailand’s oldest cities, home to remarkable ruins and temples. Known as the ‘Monkey City’ its inhabitants are that of long-tailed monkeys and have been living in Lopburi since the 11th Century. To capture the essence of this great city, this cocktail has been crafted to perfection containing ingredients that emulate a robust, rich and unique taste guaranteed to tantalise the senses. Here is how to make:
