Europe's largest Thai restaurant, Chaophraya Glasgow

Located just off Buchanan Street within the busy city centre, with 4 floors we are officially the largest Thai restaurant in Europe, not only that but the building itself is that of the old Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

There is a beautiful collection of historic décor throughout the building showing an insight to many of the worlds famous composers and of course we have added our special nod to Thai culture through our Buddha statues and famous elephant.

Since opening in 2012, we have become a household name within the Glasgow community. Our restaurant is hugely popular however what some of our visitors don’t realise is the vast number of events that we host in the venue. Our ground floor hosts an individual private dining space with more located on our fourth floor, boasting both intimate and large spaces which are perfect for meetings or private celebrations in Glasgow city centre. Our more intimate options include our breathtaking balcony, perfect for two. Our Buddha Balcony offers a view across the whole lower restaurant with private entry and dining options bespoke for your special occasion.

We spoke to with our new Business Development Manager for Chaophraya Glasgow, Hannah, who is responsible for to liaising with businesses and individuals throughout the city to assist in planning events and growing networks within the restaurant.

Hannah as we mentioned you are quite new to the Thai Leisure Group, what are your first impressions of Chaophraya Glasgow?

My first impressions – everyone is so friendly and welcoming! Having come from a small intimate team in my previous place of work it has been lovely to watch how a larger team can run so seamlessly. The team love to interact with our customers and really care for what they do.

During your time in the restaurant so far, are there any dishes that you have gained any great feedback on?

Absolutely! What I have found and really enjoyed about our menus is that most dishes can be changed based on your taste and preferences. Our Massaman curry is a real hit with customers and the lamb is a firm favourite as well as our tofu alternative for those who enjoy vegetarian Thai food as well as those with dietary requirements. I have always been a huge fan of our Pad Thai, Khun Kim’s famous recipe is one that hits the spot every time. This is a dish that I would always choose as a guest. Having visited Thailand before, the happy memories of my travels come flooding back and tasty than I ever remember.

Glasgow has been encouraging takeaway options recently, could you tell us more about that?

We have been working closely with Deliveroo, particularly during lockdown as this was a great opportunity to provide a quick and safe service for customers so that they could still order their favourite dishes in the comfort of their own home. We now offer a collection service at Chaophraya Glasgow which you can find out more information here.

We mentioned in our opening statement that you are here to assist guests with private dining options in Glasgow city centre, can you tell us more about this?

Our areas are all flexible depending in terms of requirements and can be personalised if you are hoping to celebrate a special event or celebration. Each space has bespoke characteristics and AV options can be provided for slideshows and presentations. Capacity wise, we can host groups of up to 30 guests which is fantastic for Buchanan Street. Menu options can also be adapted for any dietary requirements or special requests.

What are you most looking forward to in the year to come?

I am genuinely biting at the opportunity to interact with more businesses and customers throughout the city. I have lots of ideas and we have the ideal spaces for team building and meetings, so I am keen to continue to build on the fantastic relationships that Chaophraya already has in the city.

To get in touch with our team to make a reservationenquire about private dining options or to simply find out a little bit more, you can email bdmglagow@chaophraya.co.uk.
