Chaophraya Leeds shortlisted for Best World Restaurant in the Yorkshire Evening Post Oliver Awards 2023!

The Yorkshire Evening Post Oliver Awards is the most prestigious food and drink event in Leeds, and it is back to celebrate its 15th year. The awards, which are a celebration of the Leeds food and drink sector, will be taking place at Headingley Stadium on Monday 20th March 2023.

Chaophraya Leeds was founded in 2004 by partners in life and business, Khun Kim and Martin, and are shortlisted in an exciting new category, Best World Restaurant, all judged by an expert panel of independent judges.

Kim, the real inspiration and beating heart of our restaurants, grew up in rural Khiri Mat, a village in the Sukhothai province of Thailand where her love for cooking stemmed from cooking with her mum.

Our goal is simple: we want everyone who walks through our doors to experience a true Taste of Thailand – from the flavours and sounds to the kind-hearted culture and exciting traditions. We pride ourselves on our values and we L.O.V.E (Live Our Values Everyday). Every morning, our L.O.V.E candle is lit by the person who opens the restaurant and blown out by the last person to leave – this reinforces us to L.O.V.E and brings a sense of togetherness.

At the age of just 15 with big dreams and an entrepreneurial spirit, Kim left her village for the busy streets of Bangkok. Kim’s main passion has always been food and so, in 1993, she set up her first Pad Thai cart. Through pure dedication and hard work, she expanded the business to run several street food stalls and won an award for the delicious flavours of her Pad Thai recipe. This very recipe is still proudly used across our restaurants today.

We are over the moon to have been recognised as one of Leeds’ flourishing restaurants and are honoured to be up against some amazing business’.

Find out more about us: Our Story

Yorkshire Evening Post says, “It was a highly competitive year for entries, with hundreds of businesses applying to be recognised for their contribution to the Leeds food and drink scene. Industry experts had the unenviable task of judging the entries, picking a shortlist of finalists for each category.”

Family run since 2004, Thai Leisure Group has restaurants spanning the UK from Aberdeen down to Southampton. The competition was run across all our Chaophraya sites to encourage feedback from our customers so they can tell us what they think.

Our open channel of communication with our diners means that we are constantly evolving into the best brand for fine dining Thai food that we can be. We offer both formal and street food style dining options so people can choose to grab a quick bite or celebrate their special days with us.

We are proud to be rich in flavour and in history. We offer traditional Thai dishes alongside our signature sharing platters for couples and groups, including vegetarian and vegan options,  so that everyone can enjoy an authentic taste of Thailand.
